Abstract:

Real-Time Strategy games are interesting test beds for research and education in Game AI. The AI has to take decisions at several levels of abstraction, for example what buildings to construct and in which order, which upgrades are most useful, which combinations of units are best to defeat the current opponent, when to use a special ability of a unit, and more. It is a very time consuming task to develop an RTS game AI from scratch, so there is a demand for flexible and expandable bots that can be used in education and research. BTHAI is an open source bot for StarCraft that is designed with expandability, flexibility and adaptivity in mind. The lecture is about the design process and requirements we had when developing BTHAI, the current status of the project and what we plan for the future.
